Hello Kingsview Community.
As the recently appointed Principal at Kingsview, I am writing to tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in Port Chalmers near Dunedin and am one of seven children being the second eldest and only boy.
I began my working life as an electrician, working in a family business in Dunedin. In 1987 I joined the New Zealand Fire Service and worked for 21 years as a Professional Firefighter, the highlight being a year on exchange in Ontario Canada.
I retrained as a teacher and taught at Otatara School in Invercargill before living and teaching overseas for five years in South Korea and Vietnam.
I have three grown sons and seven grandchildren.
My wife Isabel is currently employed in the senior class at Kingsview. We have worked together successfully in the International Schools where we often taught in neighbouring classrooms.
As a Christian, I particularly enjoyed my teaching experience in a non-denominational Christian International school in Korea. While living and teaching in Vietnam we were privileged to connect with friends through church to work in different mission outreaches in the community. Recently we returned to holiday and it was amazing to catch up with many of these people again. I am an active member of St John’s Presbyterian Church in Arrowtown.
I feel the opportunity to be part of Christian Education in this area will be an amazing and rewarding experience, and I would enjoy the personal growth and challenge that would bring. From what I have observed, Kingsview offers students in the Wakatipu area a viable alternative where students can flourish.
I look forward to meeting you all personally over the next few weeks.
